Thirteen Bestest Places I've Ever Visited

The following is a list of the thirteen bestest places I've ever visited. There is still much of the world that I haven't seen so I know that this list will change but for now here goes:

1. Miami, Florida - I lived in Miami for two years in a hotel on the beach. It was a fun place with lots to do any time of the night. Best of all here were the beaches and the weather. You can't beat wearing shorts and flip flops in February when everyone up North is snowed in. I liked Miami so much that I created a blog called Considering a Holiday in Miami?.

2. Key West, Florida - I've been to Key West several times. I love doing the Duval Crawl. They have a huge party at Halloween called Fantasy Fest. I've been to two of these and all I can say is that its kind of like Mardi Gras with a twist. All I can say is if you go to Fantasy Fest don't be surprised if you see Septuagenarians sporting assless chaps.

3. Hobart, Tasmania (Australia) - This is a beautiful island south of the Australian mainland. I was there in 1998 and really don't remember much about the trip except that I visited a brewery, I was accosted by some guy who stuck his tongue in my ear, and that there was a bar with a tubular slide from one floor to the next.

4. Chicago, Illinois - I've been here a few times and it seems we always end up on the corner of Rush and Division Street. This is where there are a lot of cool bars. Last time I was there we were at a place called Bar Chicago. There were midgets dancing on the bar and the place was open til 5 A.M. That's my kind of town.

5. Catania, Sicily (Italy) - Another island. Catania is beautiful and has huge plazas where locals mill about. They had some good Irish Pubs and a McDonald's where people were lined up out the door.

6. Barcelona, Spain - One word here - SANGRIA - great stuff. Great town. Actually very beautiful. I also enjoyed Paella and Tapas very much here.

7. Split, Croatia - Enjoyed May Day in this town. It is close to Italy so the culture was somewhat similar. They had awesome gelato. This was before Croatia was on the Euro so everything was really cheap. We had 80 cent beers in the park where they were celebrating May Day. Started looking around for port-a-potties and could not find any. We asked a local and found that everyone was going in the woods to do their business.

8. Chania, Crete - What can I say about Crete? It seemed Ouzo was served with every meal and I wasn't complaining. The first time I had an English Breakfast was in Crete. Is English breakfast always served with a pitcher of Grappa??

9. Marmaris, Turkey - This is a town that goes all night. "Wild on E" was popular at the time I was in Marmaris. I thought that I was on the set of an episode. Definitely a fun town and if you're shopping for leather or shotguns, this is the place to be.

10. New Orleans, Louisiana - I was there in the late 90s. What can I say I liked about New Orleans? Pat O'Brien's, Voo Doo Shops, and Po' Boy Sandwiches. I was accused of being a "hedonistic narcissist" in New Orleans. I was like "Isn't that why we're all here?"

11. Reno, Nevada - This area of the U.S. is beautiful to me. I loved the desert and mountains that surrounded Reno. Then of course there was gambling and a place called Reno Live which was like 5 bars in one.

12. Las Vegas, Nevada - Love this town! We hung out at a place by the Convention Center called The Beach. I'm not sure if its still there. You gotta love the cheap buffets. I think I had steak and crab legs every night (must've been the hedonist in me). Donated all of my money to the Hard Rock Casino.

13. Newport, Rhode Island - This is where I currently reside and besides the cold weather this is a great town. Last week I ate the "GQ" burger at a place called the Spiced Pear. They served it with .25 martinis. Burger and 25 cent martini bill came out to $28. It was a good burger though.
